The new highway linking Sibu and Kapit is now accessible since August 2017 although some earthworks are still going on at a short stretch of 9.5km. The construction of the highway linking Kanowit to Kapit is expected to be completed and open to traffic by December 2020. Upon this completion, Kapit will be fully accessible by road from Sibu.
